Schedule

Altar Guild prepares the altar, holy vessels, and liturgical vestments for worship.

The Altar Guild members continue to work in teams of 2 or 3 people on Saturday mornings when the church is not occupied by other activities, to prepare the Altar for the Sunday worship. On Sunday morning we divide the details of cleaning and resetting the Altar after the 8 AM and 10:30 AM services.

Besides our regular weekly duties, we help with the Chrismon Trees*, put up the purple hangings* before Ash Wednesday, and do extra cleaning before major festivities. Our members also include a very competent Bridal Consultant and a Flower Coordinator. New Members are always welcome. It is a wonderful way to serve and usually only requires service about once a month except for special occasions.

*The Chrismon Tree originated in a Lutheran Church in Danville, Virginia, in 1957.  The evergreen tree, which symbolizes the eternal life which our Savior has won for us, is a background for tiny white lights and white and gold Chrismons (ornaments that represent Christian symbols).  The lights speak of Him Who is the Light of the world and the Chrismons (CHRISt +MONogram) proclaim the Name, the Life, and the saving acts of Jesus the Christ.

*The purple hangings is a tradition not only to call attention to the Cross and Christ's suffering, but also to veil the Cross during the Lenten penitential season in preparation for the glory which comes with Christ's resurrection.
