St. John's To Host the Next Round of Sacred Ground Dialogue Circles-Beginning February 18th
Sacred Ground is a film- and readings-based dialogue series on race, grounded in faith. Small groups (6-14 persons) are invited come together bi-weekly (via Zoom) and walk through chapters of America's history of race and racism, while weaving in threads of family story, economic class, and political and regional identity.
We are in the process of completing the first set of circles and are excited to announce the formation of additional circles as we have watched the transformative experience that takes place as we travel this journey together.
This is a race dialogue series designed for these times. It is an attempt to be responsive to the profound challenges that currently exist in our society. It is focused on the challenges that swirl around issues of race and racism, as well as the difficult, but respectful and transformative, dialogue we need to have with each other about them.
Participants are invited to walk back through history in order to peel away the layers that brought us to today, and to do so in a personal way, reflecting on family histories and stories, as well as important narratives that shape the collective American story. Diverse viewpoints are welcomed and encouraged as we commit to learning from each other as we are guided by the Holy Spirit in this work.
It holds the vision of beloved community as a guiding star - where all people are honored and protected and nurtured as beloved children of God, where we weep at one another's pain and seek one another's flourishing.

The series will begin on February 18th (from 7-9 pm), and will continue bi-weekly on Thursday nights for 10 sessions (with a short break at Holy Week). Participants will be asked to purchase to books that will be used throughout the series. Scholarships are available for those unable to afford the cost of the books.
